Mt. Washington, New Hampshire Adventure Micro Wedding
For years we have been waiting to photograph a couple on Mt. Washington in New Hampshire, the largest peak in the northeast, and also home to the world’s worst weather! Eloping on Mt. Washington is no small task, and not only did Danielle & Tom decide to get married on Mt. Washington, they invited 20 of their closest family members and friends to join them!
While planning their day we kept the reality of eloping in the fall on top of Mt. Washington in mind. There are only a handful of clear sunny days on Mt. Washington yearly, the chance for high winds, rain or even snow was abundant. It was the most gorgeous weather we could have ever imagined with perfect temperatures. Danielle & Tom opted to hike together, while the rest of their crew took the famous Cog Railway and we drove the auto road to the summit. Once Danielle & Tom arrived we were waiting at the summit to get them ready in the hiker’s cafe in the observatory welcome center! We did their first look, portraits, then we heard the cog railway horn in the distance announcing the arrival of their wedding party and family. We hiked back to the summit from our gorgeous on trail location to meet the officiant and family members for their ceremony. After the ceremony and more portraits we departed the summit for the couple’s intimate reception at Rek Lis Brewing Company.

So what exactly does it take to elope or get married on New Hampshire’s Mt. Washington?
-Flexibility and a sense of adventure. We came up with some amazing backup location ideas in case of “worse than usual weather”. Did you know that the highest wind speed ever recorded was on Mt. Washington? The chance that your day will have ideal weather or no wind is extremely slim. We got extremely lucky for Danielle & Tom!
-Being okay with a little crowding. While we opted to hike off the summit for the couple’s ceremony, do be prepared for some additional onlookers while on the trail or the summit area from May-October. Any other time of year is considered winter and the cog railway and auto road are not in service. We recommend midweek in late May or early June for the best privacy!
-Organization and preparedness. Staying organized, and being prepared for whatever the day may throw your way is key! This is why it’s great to hire elopement photographers like us who double as planners! We aim to make your planning process and day as stress free as possible!
