Olympic Peninsula Adventure Bridal Session
When we first met Teresa & Will they were planning their dream elopement in New Hampshire together. That day happened in October of 2022 and it was magical. They flew home to Washington after and we have been in touch ever since. Fast forward nine months and we let them know that we were going to be in their neck of the woods traveling on the Olympic coastline. So we got together and planned an adventure session in their wedding attire in one of their favorite places on the coast! Here are some tips we learned while on the Olympic Coastline and in Olympic National Park in Washington state.
1. Research and Plan Ahead
Before setting your date, research the area thoroughly. Explore different locations along the Olympic Coastline to find the perfect spot that resonates with your vision for the elopement. Consider factors like accessibility, scenery, and available amenities. You can truly have it all from glaciers and high alpine scenery, mountain lakes, rainforests, and dramatic rocky coastline. Keep in mind however, the Olympic Peninsula is massive and a drive from the rainforest or coastline to the more dramatic summits can take several hours sometimes.
2. Choose the Right Season
The Olympic Coast experiences diverse weather patterns throughout the year. Summer offers clearer skies and warmer temperatures, but it's also the busiest season. Spring and fall can be less crowded with milder weather. Winter can be dramatic but requires careful consideration due to rain and stormy weather.
3. Obtain Permits and Permissions
Certain areas along the coastline might require permits for ceremonies or professional photography. Check with the National Park Service or local authorities to obtain the necessary permits and ensure compliance with regulations. As elopement photographers we check into all those regulations for you!
4. Prepare for Variable Weather
Pack accordingly for changing weather conditions. Even during the warmer months, the coastal area can be cool and breezy. Bring layers, waterproof clothing, and consider having a backup plan in case of unexpected weather changes. While during the day in July it was a seasonable 65 degrees and sunny, while the sun was setting it became chilly very quickly and quite windy.
5. Consider Accessibility
Some locations along the coastline might have limited accessibility. Consider the ease of access for you, your guests, and any vendors you plan to hire. Some spots may require hiking or walking on uneven terrain, so plan accordingly.
6. Respect Nature and Leave No Trace
The Olympic Coast is a pristine natural area. Respect the environment by adhering to Leave No Trace principles. Carry out any trash, avoid disturbing wildlife, and be mindful of the fragile ecosystems.
