Tuckerman's Ravine Winter Elopement
Nicole & Kevin originally booked us for their summer intimate wedding, but a few weeks into the wedding planning process they decided that a wedding simply wasn’t for them. Years prior Nicole’s sister also eloped with us so you could say it runs in the family! We went back to the drawing board and came up with a plan for a magical winter elopement in one of the best New Hampshire elopement spots: Tuckerman’s Ravine.
For this New Hampshire mountain elopement we weren’t hiking to a summit, but rather to the stunning Hermit Lake and ravine floor. When they pulled up to the Pinkham Notch Visitor’s Center where the trail began we started by taking out their fat tire bikes so they could ride that last bit of the infamous Sherburne ski trail (aka Sherbie or the sherb as it is known to the AT ski community of NH) to fully embrace one of their other favorite outdoor activities.
The sherb was definitely “in” from a snowstorm the prior night dropping over a foot of fresh powder for us to hike up the trail on. We passed by uphill skiers the whole way until we reached the shelter where we were able to get a break from the wind to get Nicole into her beautiful elopement skirt and sweater combo!
Speaking of wind, my voice was carried off from the furious 50mph sustained winds throughout the ceremony. Nicole and Kevin were troopers and stuck it out. Instead of going to the ravine floor we opted for the safety and shelter of Hermit Lake since it was totally socked in anyways. For portraits we opted to get out of the wind and take them on the lovely trail on the way back down. Winter elopements require extreme patience and flexibility which Nicole and Kevin had a ton of.
